A high-velocity, friendships-ruining game of cat and mouse where your physical stamina is your only hope of survival.
Built for SpookJam 2018 under the theme House of Horror, Leg It! is a chaotic 2-player split-screen arcade game. The premise is as classic as a 90s slasher flick: Player 1 is the killer, Player 2 is the victim, and the only thing standing between life and death is how fast you can mash your buttons.
The victim needs to reach the exit door of the House of Horrors to escape. The killer just needs to catch them.
The Loop & Mechanics
This game is pure, unadulterated button-mashing panic.
- The Movement: You don't just hold "W" to run. You have to rhythmically alter-mash your two keys to get your character's legs moving. The faster you mash, the faster you sprint.
- The Killer's Handicap: To keep things fair, the killer moves naturally faster but will automatically smash into any room furniture along the way, slowing them down.
- The Victim's Defence: The runner can use this furniture to their advantage. By slamming both of their movement buttons simultaneously when nearing an obstacle, they can shove it directly into the killer's path to buy a few precious seconds.
The Hardware Legacy
If the control scheme sounds a bit intense, that's because Leg It! was built to utilise the exact same 4-button custom arcade controller designed for [Off Course]. Slapping giant arcade buttons makes the frantic gameplay feel incredible.
No custom hardware? No problem. We built in keyboard support so you can wreck your wrists on a standard layout:
