Built for the GMTK Game Jam 2020 under the chaotic theme Out of Control, International Slice Station asks the tough questions. Specifically: how do you celebrate a birthday on the ISS when physics is actively rooting against you?
The premise is pure sci-fi absurdity. You and your brothers are throwin' a party in orbit, and you’ve been tasked with slicing the birthday cake. For very scientific, non-negotiable reasons, you only have a few seconds to get the job done. Turns out, NASA doesn't actually train astronauts for zero-g pastry mechanics, so things get messy fast.
The Physics Engine Enemy
Since you’re floating in micro-gravity, the controls are a deliberate exercise in fighting your own momentum. You, your brothers, the cake, and the freshly sliced cake pieces all have their own independent, floating physics bodies. One wrong move sends the birthday dessert hurtling into a bulkhead. Trying to line up a clean cut while drifting aimlessly through the station is exactly as "out of control" as the jam theme demanded.
The Crew
This weightless birthday disaster was coded and spun up by a solid jam team:
