The distance controller uses an Ultrasonic Distance sensor to track how far the controller is from another object for example, the players hand. This works with a range of 2cm to 50cm. This distance value is translated into a joystick input by the micro-controller. Similar to the pressure sensitive controller, the micro-controller mimics a generic gamepad. This allows for easy implementation within any games engine or tech.
The simple game prototype developed to showcase the controller is a simple avoid the object game. The player controls the helicopter, moving it up or down, by moving their hand up and down above the controller. The distance sensor tracking the distance between the hand and controller.
